Inspirational Bullet Journal Ideas!

So... we all love bullet journaling but sometimes thinking of the ideas, layouts and designs can be the hardest part, especially if you're having a creative block!

If you're anything like us, you want to try every spread out there but you don't want it to be too crowded or over complicated either, and finding a balance can be quite hard!

We’ve got the solution for you! Creating themes for your bullet journal can not only save you time and help you plan your spreads better, but it’s a fun way to include all the ideas and themes you want without the stress!

What is a bullet journal theme anyway?

A bullet journal theme is super simple, it’s basically the way you design the layout of your journal. For example, if you have a lot of Disney characters in your layout, it's a ‘Disney’ theme, or if you have a lot of succulents in your spreads, it’s a Succulent theme!

How to use themes in your bullet journal:

The beauty of a bullet journal is that you can do whatever you want in it and it’s totally personalised to you! However, there are 3 ways that most people tend to use bullet journal themes:

Changing themes every layout - This method is perfect for people that don’t want to stick to a consistent theme for too long, but also want to showcase their creativity. What you’ll want to do is create a plan or a list of all the themes you want to include throughout the year and choose one of these themes every month! For example, October could be an Autumn/Fall theme, and September could be a Flower theme - it’s totally up to you!

Choosing one theme for a whole journal - If you’re super passionate about a certain theme or are using your bullet journal for something in particular (eg - reading, school, money etc) then you may want to choose one theme for the ENTIRE of your journal. This is a less popular method, but you can still be creative and have an awesome bullet journal!

Create a different theme each week - This method is very similar to the first method, but instead of changing your theme every month, you change it every week. This method is great for people who prefer to create weekly spreads instead of monthly spreads and allows you to create a lot more themes in your journal!

How to design your theme:

Again, your bullet journal is YOURS and so it’s totally down to you how you use your themes and adapt these to different spreads. However, there are 2 general ways in which people utilise themes:

Keep the theme consistent - This means keeping the same doodles, pictures and ideas for each spread you do. This will make each page and spread look very similar and will give your bullet journal a more consistent feel.

Switch up the theme from spread to spread - This is a more creative way of putting your theme into your bullet journal and is generally more popular. This means having different parts of your theme in different spreads. Let’s say your theme is Autumn/Fall - your water tracker may have autumnal leaves with oranges and browns, but your reading tracker may be halloween based, or have more trees - it’s totally up to you! This is a great way to explore different themes.
